New New New

April is all about that which is NEW.

Not that we should discard everything that is old, but we should celebrate that which is new. The past year has resulted in us all experiencing something new. And though we are not completely out of the woods yet hopefully we are emerging into a NEW normal.

Sometimes new is not comfortable. We often resist change and wish for the good old days. We get caught up in reminiscing. For sure, there were good times in the past, but there are good times now and there will be more in days to come. We can’t go back.  Here is an abridged quote from Thomas Wolfe’s Lost Boy: A Novella:

“…that lost magic would not come again. Lost now was all of it- the street … and the child that dreamed. And out of the enchanted wood, that thicket of memory, … the dark eye and the quiet face…life’s stranger, and life’s exile, lost like all of us, a cipher in blind mazes, long ago-the lost … was gone forever, and would not return.”

So embrace the new! The newness of life we were guaranteed by that first Easter, the newness of spring as nature surges forth in all its grandeur, the newness of insight if we but choose to listen and watch before relying on our old knee-jerk reactions.

Have you learned a NEW skill? Read a NEW book? Have a NEW family member? Tried a NEW recipe?  Or better yet, have you gained a new opinion, thought, or insight after discovering an old you held was flawed?  Please share something NEW in a comment below.
